Jacksdale is a village in the [local government] district of Ashfield, part of the English county of Nottinghamshire. It was once a mining community; it is believed that Arthur's father worked in the colliery. He was the son of William and Mary Crampton of New South Wales. [Mary may have been his step-mother]
Australian Infantry (AIF) 56th Bn 8th Reinforcement. The unit embarked 11/11/1916 from Sydney New South Wales aboard HMAT A29 Suevic.
