Charles Phillip De Carteret GRANDIN was born on 4th August 1889 in St Helier, New Jersey, Channel Islands
His parents were Charles Daniel GRANDIN and Louisa Ann HUELIN
He enlisted on 11th March, 1916 with the Australian Army - 41st Battalion, B Company - Unit embarked from Sydney on HMAT Demosthenes on 18th May, 1916
Charles died of wounds on 1st August 1917 in France and is buried in Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, Nord Pas de Calais, France
He is also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial and on a Family Memorial in Mont a L'Abbe Cemetery, Jersey
He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal

Roll of Honour. Mrs. Grandin of 3 Franklyn Place Windsor Rd today received the sad information from the Reverend G Kennedy-Tucker, Church of England Chaplain of the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station that her son Private Charles Phillip de Carterer Grandin had died of wounds. The Chaplain states that the soldier was admitted to hospital on 31st July suffering from wounds in the back and passed away the following day. Continuing he says that the relatives can be cheered by the thought that the soldier did his duty and did it well. The late soldier was in his 28th year and before leaving for the Commonwealth about 9 years ago was employed at Voisin & Col. The family have our sincere sympathy
