14 Jun 1917:	Embarked AIF WW1, Private, 5049, 31st Infantry Battalion, On the 22/5/1917 William Hugh King enlisted for the A.I.F. at Enoggera Brisbane and gave his address as 304 Murray St Rockhampton. He stated he was 18 years and 10 months old when in fact he was 15. He was a horse trainer. He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighed 143 pounds measured 35 1/2 inches around the chest had a fresh complexion, grey eyes and brown hair. He stated that his father had been dead 11 years and his mother, dead for 3 years. Since the death of his mother he had been working for J.Johnson, Yaamba Rd. Rockhampton. He stated that he had no legal guardian. He was appointed to 14th Rfcts., 31st Infantry Battalion. He was given home leave from 8/6/1917 to travel by train for 3 hours to Forest Hill where he spent 2 days before returning to Enoggera. He embarked at Sydney on H.M.A.T Hororata on 14/6/1917 and died at sea near Capetown on 8/7/1917 not even 1 month after leaving Sydney. He was just 15. He died of cerebro spinal meningitis and was buried at sea.
