The 69th name inscribed is Private Alexander Chalmers.

On the 17th July 1959, Private Alexander Chalmers, 34th Battalion (Reg No-2543), miner from School Hill, Minmi, New South Wales and Back Creek, Minmi, N.S.W. (1917) and Kalingo Street, Bellbird, N.S.W., died at Cessnock, N.S.W., age 69 years 2 months.

I do not known where Alex is buried or ashes interred, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 18th May 1890 to James, died 30.11.1928, Cessnock, N.S.W., age 78, buried at Cessnock Cemetery, N.S.W., no death or funeral notice located, from Back Creek, Minmi, New South Wales, and Jane Chalmers, died 11.12.1931, Cessnock, N.S.W., age 80, sleeping at Cessnock Cemetery, N.S.W., from Back Creek, Minmi, New South Wales; husband of Madge Chalmers nee Westendorff, married 1913, Cessnock, N.S.W., died?., from Brown's Hill, Minmi, N.S.W. (1917).

Alex enlisted on the 11th September 1916, age 26 years 4 months, at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board SS Napier on the 17th November 1916.

Disembarked Devonport, England 29.1.1917.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Folkestone, England 25.4.1917.

Wounded in action - 6/11.6.1917 (GSW left arm & shoulder, severe, Battle of Messines), 17.4.1918 (gassed).

Commenced return to Australia 11.5.1919.

Alex arrived home on the 28th June 1919, being discharged on the 5th August 1919.

Not officially commemorated.

A. Show Grounds, Moore Park, N.S.W.
