Harry's parents were Robert Lane and Harriet Tindel. He enlisted on 21 September 1914 at Enoggera. Harry was wounded in action and the medical board invalided him back to Australia, he was discharged from the army on 24 January 1916. He married Lilian Margaret Mikkelsen in 1920. They lived at Kobble Creek until 1925 and then moved to Bundaberg.
