The rain may have been around today, but that didn’t stop us from restoring the lettering to this beautiful headstone at Lutwyche Cemetery. This headstone is on the grave of Private Alexander Jamieson, Machine Gunner with the 5th Light Horse Battalion who served in WW1 and other members of his family. It was also wonderful to be joined by Alexander Jamieson’s grandson, Bill who gave us permission to do this work on behalf of his family.

Cate, Paul and I were helped today by Katie (a new regular to our team) as well as two new volunteers, Dana and Trent who did a great job! The rain stayed away long enough for us to get the headstone completed and the sun even came out at the end! Such an amazing transformation on this headstone.
The following information has been provided by Bill Edwards about the family members listed on the headstone:
𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗝𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗘𝗦𝗢𝗡 – Born in or near Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Son of Alfred Jamieson (wine merchant) and Laura Simpson. Machine Gunner, 5th Light Horse, Gallipoli. 43rd person to enlist in Queensland.

She and Alexander had six daughters, namely Laura Mary, Grace Constance (my mother), Doreen May, Clarice Patricia (“Jack”), Norma Ellen and Kathleen Alexia.
