Anderson, Henry Albert – Biography

Henry Albert Anderson was a World War I veteran who served from 1916 to 1918. Anderson was 28 years old when he enlisted in the 32nd Battalion on January 21, 1916. He was born in London, England, and worked as a Bracemen before enlisting. His wife, Mrs. Beatrice Anderson, was his life partner. His service number was 3645 and was embarked for active service aboard in France on the 12th of August 1916. His Unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat. During Andersons service he was temporarily attached to the 8th Brigade Works Unit on the 14th of November 1917, as well as other temporary detachments.. Then moved back to the 32nd Battalion in late 1918.

Anderson enrolled in the Australian Imperial Force on January 21, 1916. On the 12th of August 1916, he was shipped for active service in France. On the 30th of December of that year, Albert Henry disembarked at Davenport, England, and travelled to France. Anderson arrived in Etaples, France. Anderson was assigned to the 32nd battalion in the field on February 7, 1917. Anderson was assigned to the 8th Brigade Works Unit in the field on November 14, 1917. On the 17th of December 1917, he was removed from that company and sent to the 184th Tunnelling Coy, which he joined in the field on the 7th of March 1918. Then detached that unit on 11th of April of that year. Anderson was admitted to the hospital several times over the course of two months. On November 20, 1918, the 8th Field Ambulance was hospitalised with influenza. Transported to the 3rd Abbeville General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with influenza. On the 20th of December 1918, he was invalided to England and admitted to Milty Hospital in Bethnal Green, where he was diagnosed with Broncho Pneumonia. On the 23rd of January 1919, he joined the Australian Imperial Force for duty. Anderson left England on April 16, 1920, for a "Ho ro rata" return to Australia. On the 18th of June, he disembarked in Sydney and was dismissed from the A.I.F. on the 18th of August 1920, at the end of his enlistment time.

After his active duty, he died on February 16, 1975, at the age of 87. Anderson is honoured with a plaque in the Garden of Remembrance in New South Wales.
