Alfred Ernest Croft
Alfred Ernest Croft was born at Forest Range on the 27th November 1887 and worked as a labourer prior to enlisting on the 26th August 1915 aged 27. Croft listed his wife Isabell Croft of Magill as next of kin.
Croft joined the 9th Light Horse {and later the 11th} and left Australia on the 18th November 1915 on the Geelong, bound for Heliopolis, arriving on the 12th January 1916.
He was wounded in action on the 10th August 1916, sustaining gunshot wounds to the right knee at Tel-el-Kebir in Egypt. Croft was admitted to the 1st Australian Stationary Hospital on the 14th August and repatriated on the 1st September. He returned to Australia on board the hospital transport Ascanius, reaching Adelaide on the 29th September. Croft was discharged as medically unfit on the 4th January 1917
