FRANK CARTWRIGHT was born on 12th April, 1894, at Carlton Ashes, near Grantham, England, the son of William and Annie E. Cartwright, of Grantham. He was educated at the Sedgeworth Grammar School, Grantham.

Frank Cartwright came out to Australia and entered the service of the Bank at Gympie, Queensland, on 19th September, 1911. He was transferred to Roma as ledger-keeper on 9th August, 1914.

Before the war began he had joined the Darling Downs Light Horse Regiment, and held the rank of regimental quartermaster sergeant. Enlisting on 25th August, 1914, Frank Cartwright was appointed squadron quartermaster sergeant in the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, A.I.F., and left Australia for Egypt with the 1 st Division. He died of pneumonia in the hospital at Heliopolis, near Cairo, on 18th April, 1915.
