Charles was born on Netley Station near Menindee, New South Wales in 1899 and schooled at Mildura State School, Victoria. His parents lived in Walnut Avenue, Mildura, Victoria.
His remains were found during 1921, identified by his disc, and reburied in the Tyne Cot Cemetery.
His eldest brother, William Henry Cramp, served with the 9th Light Horse and returned to Australia during 1919.
