Bill Green's War

John William “Bill” Green enlisted in the military on April 5, 1918, in Northam, Western Australia, Australia, when he was 17 years old.
After basic training at Blackboy Hill in Western Australia, his Unit embarked from Albany, Western Australia, on board HMAT A16 "Port Melbourne" on 24 July 1917and arrived in Liverpool, Lancashire, England 16 Sept 1917. He was stationed at Rolleston Camp from 23 Sep 1917 until 8 Nov 1917 when he was transferred to the 6th Battalion at Fovant, Wiltshire, England.
On 23 Jan 1918, Bill embarked for France from Southampton, Hampshire, England, arriving at Le Havre, Seine-Maritime, France, on January 24, 1918, he was now 18 years old.
On February 2, 1918, he was stationed in the field at Armentières, France. On 05 Apr 1918 he was Wounded in Action on the Western Front by impact from a Machine Gun bullet. His right upper and lower jaw was badly broken.
On 14 Apr 1918, he was evacuated to England and admitted to the Queen's Hospital, Sidcup, Kent, for reconstructive facial surgery.
After discharge from hospital, he was returned to Australia, departing aboard the "Lancashire” and arriving at Fremantle on 7 February 1919
John William “Bill” Green was granted an Honourable Discharge on 16April, 1919, he was then 19 years old.
