Edward was born Edgar Allen FOUNTAIN in 1896 in Drummoyne, Sydney NSW
His parents were Frederick FOUNTAIN and Mary Elizbeth HUNAND
He enlisted on 8th March, 1916 with the 2nd battalion
He was discharged in Dec. 1916 before going into combat for being AWOL for 4 weeks and went to Cumnock in NSW and re-enlisted as Edgar
He rejoined his battalion in 1917 in France and was killed by machine gun fire in Hermies on 9th April, 1917
No known grave - Commemorated in the Australian National Memorial Villers Bretonneux, France
His brothers Keith Huband FOUNTAIN and Reginald Frederick FOUNTAIN were both wounded but later returned to Australia
