12 May 1917: Honoured Military Medal, On May 4th 1917 Private Opie had already been on continuous bearer duty for 24 hours in front of Noreuil under heavy enemy shell fire, he injured his foot. In spite of this he carried on for a further 12 hours and showed a fine example of determination, coolness, and steadiness. Commonwealth Gazette 189. on 8 November 1917

Son of Edwin Opie and Tryphena Opie nee Paterson of Corbett Street, Ballarat East, Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 12 May 1918 aboard HS Gaika as nursing staff  disembarking on 5 July 1918
