Frank Arthur Allen Dicker

Frank Arthur Allen Dicker was born 23 November 1895 at Towitta, the 7th child and first son of Walter Spencer Dicker and Caroline Lambert.

On the 15th July 1915, Frank’s mother Caroline, wrote a letter stating “I am willing to allow my son F A A Dicker, enlist for active service abroad”. The next day Frank enlisted.

He enlisted on 16 July 1915 at Keswick. Regimental No. 4756. Unit 50th Battalion. Rank of Lance Corporal. On the enlistment form it states to the question “ Do you belong to, or have ever served, His Majesty’s …(services)”, Frank has answered “75th Battalion S Cadets, transfer to 78 Infantry, still serving” and states that his pay will reach 8/- (8 shillings) a day. He is the sole supporter of his widowed mother. Frank on enlistment was 19 years 8 months, occupation hat maker, height 5 feet 91/2 inches, weight 140 lbs, fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair and a birthmark on the left buttock. Religion: Baptist

Unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board RMS Mongolia on 9 March 1916 and Frank served in France and spent time in England. Returned to Australia on 28 January 1919 and discharged on 25 may 1919.

Total service 3 years 324 days, with which 2 years 326 was served abroad.

He married Lucy Winnifred Penney on 3 April 1923 at Church of Christ, Cottonville (today is Westbourne Park). Lucy died 1 April 1937 age 35, leaving Frank with two young sons.

Frank died 21 November 1962, two days prior to his 67th birthday and buried with his wife at Mitcham Cemetery.
