Son of Thomas Borland Vipond and Harriet Vipond nee Howard of Mount Alexander Road, Essendon, Victoria.

Brother of Thomas Rex Vipond who returned to Australia on 22 August 1919 having served with the 5th Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 10 September 1917 aboard HT Ulysses arrived at Melbourne 13 January 1918
