Son of James R Bottomley and Louisa Bottomley of 192 High Street, St Kilda, Victoria.
Brother of Harry Thomas Bottomley who was killed in action on 12 December 1916 while serving with the 58th Battalion and is buried in the London Cemetery & Extension, Longueval. Plot 10 Row J, Grave 18. Also brother of Clifford James Bottomley who returned to Australia on 29 July 1915 having served with the 6th Battalion and Leila Bottomley
