Military Medal

'For plucky work in charge of Brigade carrying parties by day and night to the front line at POZIERES and MOUQUET on the 26th August, 1916. He distinguished himself by his coolness and determination under fire, at times extremely heavy, and succeeded in getting his loads delivered regularly and at the appointed hours, thanks to his excellent example.'

Word has been received that Lance Corporal Robert Charles Gordon Greig, second eldest son of Mr. D. Greig, manager of the Bank of Victoria at  Penshurst, was killed in action in France on October 13th. This is the second son of Mr. Greig to pay the supreme sacrifice, Lieutenant  Norman Greig  being killed in action in Gallipoli. Much sympathy is expressed for the parents in their bereavement. Lance-Corporal Greig enlisted in June, 1915, saw  service on Gallipoli, contracted enteric fever there, and was invalided to England. He afterwards went to France, and at Pozieres he won the Military  Medal for bravery. He afterwards fought at Baupaume, Bullecourtl, and Fricourt. He was on active service for two years and six months. Prior to  enlisting he was assistant engineer in the States and Rivers Water Supply department at Rochester, in which department he had the promise of a good  career. He was a promising student at Warrnambool high school, and afterwards at Dookle College, and was a thorough all-round athlete.

GREIG.- In fond memory of our dear son, Robert Charles Gordon Greig, M.M., who fell on the field of honour, at Broodseinde Ridge, Zonnebeke, Belgium, on 9th October, 1917; also his elder brother, Lieutenant Norman J. Greig, who also fell heroically at Gallipoli on 11th July, 1915.
Our dear boys.
Two gallant Anzac heroes.
