Son of George WELLS and Margaret Annie nee FENN

Vide Police Gazette, 1917, page 52. - Clarence James Wells, military deserter, has been arrested by Constable Readett, on information supplied by Constable Dowd, both  Brewarrina Police. Handed over to the military authorities - escorted to Darlinghurst Detention Barracks.

"I beg to report that I arrested Clarence James Wells (Military Deserter) at Corrella Station, 44 miles from Brewarrina at 8 am. on the 11th March 1918.  I arrived at Brewarrina with him at 96 pm. same date and conveyed him to Brewarrina on horseback.  Wells has been working on Corrella Station for some months as general labourer and has proved himself a good worker to the owners of the Station.  There was no expense incurred in the arrest of Wells as I led a spare Police horse to the Station for Wells to ride into Brewarrina, and he paid for his own food on the road.  He has now been in the Lock-up here since Monday last the 11th inst. and is expected to leave here under Military escort tomorrow the 15th inst."

Embarked from Sydney 08 May 1918 for England per 'Osterley' and proceeded to France 17 October 1918 with the 53rd Infantry Battalion.

Evacuated to England and admitted with Influenza 28 February 1919 to Endell Street Military Hospital.

Returned to Australia 20 May 1919 per 'Armagh' and discharged 4 June 1919.
