Son of John Owens and Edith Charlotte Owens nee Lethbridge of 'Mandaribba', Garton Street, North Carlton, Victoria.

The Navy gave him special leave to enlist in the AIF

Commenced return to Australia on 25 September 1919 aboard HT Port Denison as nursing staff disembarking on 13 November 1919
