Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Cecil Francis Floyd was the son of Charles Clifton Floyd and Mary Floyd.

Cecil’s parents had both passed away by 1904 when he was less than eight years of age. He gave his nearest of kin as his stepfather, James Uprichard, of Black Soil, near Ipswich, Queensland.

Cecil was taken on strength of the 31st Battalion at the front on 2 April 1917. He was killed in action during the Battle of Polygon Wood on 26 September 1917. He would have turned 21 on Christmas Day 1917.

His brother, 5018 Pte. Charles Floyd 52nd Battalion AIF was killed in action six months later, on 27 March 1918, aged 21.

Another older brother, 1676 Pte. Cornelius Alexander Floyd 25th Battalion AIF was returned to Australia with severe wounds to his left arm in July 1917.
