    28 Aug 1918: Honoured Military Medal, Egypt and Palestine - Light Horse and AFC Operations, For bravery and devotion to duty at midnight on 21/22 March 1918 near Makhadet Hajla, when 17967 Sapper Samuel Dawson swam the swift current of the Jordan River with a line under fire, accompanied by six members of the Londoners Regiment, in order to establish a bridge crossing of the river. In the challenging conditions Dawson was also forced to rescue some of the English soldiers from drowning. Once the line was over, a raft took more and more Londoners over the river to establish a bridgehead while the Australian Engineers started building the pontoon bridge as the morning broke.
