Son of Martha and Henry SAMS, Farrand Street, Forbes, NSW
During the week Richard Hector Sams, a fine stamp of a young man, and son of Mr Henry Sams, carpenter, of North Hill, walked into Forbes recruiting office, and mentioned that he wanted to enlist. This is the fourth son of Mr Henry Sams, who has enlisted for active service. Two sons, Fred and William, have seen service at Gallipoli, and another son Herbert C. Sams, enlisted a few days ago.
It is our painful duty to have to report the death of Mr Richard Hector Sams, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Sams, of Farrand Street, Forbes, which sad event took place in the Forbes hospital at an early hour yesterday morning. The deceased was a single man and was only 24 years of age. We was one of a family of eight sons, four of whom served in the late world war. The deceased himself had over three years' service to his credit, and had the misfortune to be badly gassed. When he fell a victim to a severe cold last week it was at once recognised that his chances of recovery were remote, and after only a week's illness he passed away. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to the family in their loss. The funeral this morning was to the Church of England cemetery.
