The Minmi Roll of Honour has 79 names inscribed of those who returned home from The Great War.

The 60th name inscribed is Private William Philp Allan.

On the Saturday afternoon of the 15th June 1935, Private William Philp Allan, 4th Australian Machine Gun Battalion (Reg No-2272), labourer from Black Hill, Minmi, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Black Hill Uniting Cemetery, N.S.W., unmarked grave, Plot 3, age 41 years 1 month.

William had died at the Maitland General Hospital, N.S.W. on the 13th June 1935 as ALLEN.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 26th April 1894 to William, died 21.1.1898, Black Hill, Minmi, N.S.W., age 33, father of 4, buried at Minmi Cemetery, N.S.W., Left Hand Side, Section 08, Plot 016 and Ida Edith Ellen Allan nee Taylor, died 3.6.1939, East Maitland, N.S.W., age 72, sleeping at Black Hill Uniting Cemetery, N.S.W., Plot 4, no funeral notice.

William enlisted on the 1st May 1916 with the 35th Battalion, age 22 years, at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A30 Borda on the 17th October 1916.

Disembarked Plymouth, England 9.1.1917.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Folkestone, England 25.4.1917.

Admitted to hospital 1.2.1918 (trench fever), 25.11.1918 (flat feet & corns).

Taken on Strength 4th Australian Machine Gun Battalion 27.8.1918.

Commenced return to Australia 25.9.1919.

William arrived home on the 17th November 1919, being discharged on the 8th January 1920.

I would like to erect a cross adorned with poppies at Mr. Allan’s gravesite if it can be located.
