Leslie was the son of Richard James Remington and Florence Minnie Louisa Wenham who lived at Deception Bay. He attended Humpybong State School and enlisted in October 1916 when he was working as a labourer at Spring Hill. He married Annie Schaffer in 1925. They lived in Brisbane after the war where Lesley worked as a garage hand.
