Robert Edward Hancock, born circa November 1895 was the son of Mrs. Julia Hancock and Mr. Thomas George Hancock. He was 19 years and 9 months old when he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force. In February 1919, Robert Edward Hancock legally confirmed his name was really Albert Edward Hancock. His service number was 2667 and he is a veteran of the First World War. Albert was 5’9” tall, 164 lbs. (74 kgs) and had a chest measurement of 34.37 inches when he enlisted. He had a fair complexion, blue coloured eyes and brown coloured hair. Before enlisting, he was a storeman and he lived in Torrensville, South Australia, Australia. His place of enlistment was Keswick, South Australia and his enlistment date was the 2nd of August 1915. He survived the war and got married after it ended. Albert married Frances May Beale on the 18th of November, 1918. She was 22 and he was 23.

Albert embarked from Australia on the 27th of October 1915 and he was in the 27th Infantry Battalion, 6th reinforcement. He transferred to the 10th Infantry Battalion on the 28th of February 1916. Albert’s rank was a Private (Pte).

He was twice wounded in action: on 25 July 1916 at Pozieres, and on 6 May 1917 at Bullecourt.

Albert Edward Hancock returned to Australia on the 21st of August 1919 on the “Zealandic” which was a ship operated by White Star Line. It was used as a passenger liner and a cargo ship as well as serving during both world wars.
