Son of John and Agnes Kevan, of Koroit, Victoria.
The Supreme Sacrifice.
Another Koroit soldier is numbered among the gallant young men who heard and answered the call of King and Country, and gave his life in consequence. On Wednesday morning the Defence Department asked the Rev. R. Nairn to inform Mr. and Mrs. John Kevan that their son, Lance-Corporal Lyall Kevan, was killed in action on 4th ult. He was 33 years of age, and enlisted in January last year, and after several months in training at the Bendigo camp sailed on 20th June. He was 12 months in the trenches in France and Belgium, and has regularly corresponded with his parents, giving an account of his exploits. In an engagement before being killed Lance-Corporal Kevan was one of 30 who got safely back out of 150 taking part in a charge. The deceased soldier was a native of Koroit, and stood high in the estimation of all associates and friends. The people of Koroit and district sympathise deeply with the sorrowing parents and relatives in the great loss they have sustained. Lance-Corporal Kevan spent some years in Western Australia, being mostly engaged in prospecting and mining. At the time of enlistment he was engaged in farming pursuits in Gippsland.
KEVAN.—Killed in action at Ypres, on the 4th October, 1917, Lance Corporal Robert Lyall Kevan, late 38th Battalion, second son of John and Agnes Kevan.
