Albert Henry White was a Corporal who served in WWI during 1914-1918. Albert was born in Sussex England on 1/07/1894, he was a member of the Church of England and he worked as a labourer. His mother Mrs Carline Lambert was first listed as his next of kin and then was changed to his wife.
Albert enlisted for the military on 19/08/1914, and embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on transport A11 Ascanius on 20/10/1914. At the time Albert Henry White was only 24 years old and 9 months old when he enlisted for World War One. On his enlistment papers, it states that Albert was 5’71/2 feet tall, he weighed 155kg, with chest measurements of 381/2 inches, his eyes were blue, and he had blonde hair. Albert joined the training at the military camps in England with 2,000 other enlistees.
On 1/08/1915, Albert entered to join the Gallipoli battles. Around the middle of August 1915, all of the Allied forces planned a series of attacks made through the Ottoman defences. This was also known as the “August Offensive” officially began on 7/08/1915. Albert Henry White rejoined the battles on the 25/11/1915. In January 1916 he was admitted to hospital in Helousan with Jaundice.
White was sent on trial for 4 days because he committed crimes. Drunkenness in the field and absence without leave from 7/9/1916 - 10/9/1916, he was charged with 90 days of No. 1 Field Punishment. but his service records stated 'recommendation to mercy on account of his previous good record during 4 months on Peninsula and both Pozieres operations'. His sentence was reduced to 40 days.
On 19/01/1917, he got Jaundice again and was admitted to the hospital in France and then to England to convalesce. He was in the hospital until 24/02/1917 and then took furlough reporting back to Wareham 23rd March 1917. He was then transferred to the 70th Battalion. On the 9/06/1917, White qualified as an assistant Instructor at Weymouth. He was promoted to Corporal 16th September 1917 and transferred to the 3rd Training Battalion. He remained at the Training Battalion Headquarters and completed communication course in January 1918. White returned to the 10th Battalion in France 9th March 1918
In August 1918 White was convicted of another crime obeing absent without leave again from 31/8/1918 to 2/9/1918, as a punishment he was reprimanded by his Commanding Officer and forfeited 2 days pay.
On 8/10/1918, Albert Henry White returned to Australia arriving 2nd December 1918. He was discharged from the A.I.F. at Adelaide on 31/01/1919.
