Son of Frederick George O'Bree and Mary Ann O'Bree nee Freeland of William Street, Preston, Victoria.
Apprenticed to John Bungle & Sons engineers of North Melbourne for seven years.
Brother of Stanley Pierpoint O'Bree who was killed in action on 4 July 1918 while serving with the 60th Battalion and is buried in the Mericourt-L'Abbe Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Plot 111, Row F, Grave 8; Victor Charles O'Bree who returned to Australia on 1 January 1918 having served with the 23rd Battalion
