Son of Edward George Sloane and Sophia Elizabeth Foster of 'Julian' Wharf Road, Gladesville, NSW

George served in France and was woundd at Ypres 29 September 1917 and invalided to Colchester Hospital England.  He returned to France in February 1918 and remained on active service until the signing of the Armistice.

On 17 April 1919 George married Marian T. Pate in Cairnbank Duns, Duns Berwick, Scotland. Minister Joseph Corkey

Commenced return to Australia on 3 July 1919 aboard Prinz Hubertus disembarking at Sydney on 26 August 1919
