Alexander BOWER
Alexander Bower’s name is included on the Alumny Creek Public School WWI Honor Roll. He enlisted in 1916 and received an enthusiastic send-off at a gathering held in the Alumny Creek Public Hall near Grafton, NSW. He embarked from Sydney with the 34th Battalion, A.I.F., for service in France.
Alexander married Miss Janet Cunningham in Scotland while on active service in 1917. There is a notation in the margin of the marriage register stating "Australian Soldier 2039 3rd M.G.B." Alexander returned to Australia in 1918 and Janet arrived the following year. The couple later returned to live in Southampton, U.K., where Alexander died on November 20, 1966. He was survived by his wife, son Jack, daughter Helen and their families. Janet died in Southampton in 1986.
