From Gallipoli, 1915
Pte. Donald Alexander, “B” Company, 28th Battalion Australian Infantry, was severely wounded on 26th September 1915 and died later that day at the 16th Casualty Clearing Station. He is buried in Embarkation Pier Cemetery, commemorated by a special memorial.
“ALEXANDER. — In sad but loving memory of Private Donald Alexander (Don), our dearly loved son and brother, killed in action at Gallipoli on September 26, 1915, aged 24 years and 5 months. Deeply mourned.
“ — Inserted by his sorrowing father, mother, and brother. Edinburgh and Glasgow papers please copy.
“ALEXANDER. — In faithful memory of our old school and play mate, Private Don Alexander, 28th Battalion, wounded in the trenches and died on the beach at Gallipoli on September 26, 1915, a native of Albany.
“Asleep he lies on a foreign strand.
“ — Inserted by the Hamilton family, near Denmark, Western Australia.
“ALEXANDER. — In fond remembrance of our friend Pivate Donald Alexander (Don), who was killed in action on September 26, 1915, at Gallipoli, 24 years and 5 months.
“He answered his country's call.

“ALEXANDER. — In loving memory of my dea friend, Donald Alexander, who was killed in action at Gallipoli on September 26, 1915, aged 24 years.

Born in Albany, Western Australia, the former mill hand enlisted at Blackboy Hill on 3rd March 1915. He was the 25 year-old son of Peter and Isabella Alexander of Mornington Mills, Western Australia.

Private Donald Alexander, 28th Battalion from Mornington Mills. Western Australia.
A 24 year old mill hand prior to enlisting on 3 March 1915. He embarked for overseas service with B Company from Fremantle, Western Australia aboard HMAT Ascanius #OTD in 1915.
After disembarking in Egypt, he sailed to Gallipoli on 4 September 1915.
Pte Alexander was wounded in action on 26 September 1915 and died from his wounds later that same day at the No 16 Casualty Clearing Station on Gallipoli.
He is buried in Embarkation Pier Cemetery.
