William Charles Norton

William Charles Norton, was born at Forest Range on the 29th November 1896. He worked as a labourer and at the age of 19 enlisted in Adelaide on 25th May 1916, nominating his mother Sarah Ann Norton of “Hillside”, Forest Range as his next of kin. Norton left Australia on the 7th November 1916. He was hospitalised at the Military Hospital Bulford, England for 33 days on the 9th February 1917. On the 25th June 1917 Norton proceeded to France and joined the 50th Battalion on the 15th July. He was appointed Lance Corporal on the 18th August.
Private William Charles Norton was killed in action at Villers-Bretonneux in France on the 25th April 1918. He has no known grave.

His brother, Pilot Officer Hartley Graham Norton, aged 22, Service Number 416512, was killed over Germany 03/10/1943 whilst serving with the Royal Australian Air Force

They were sons of Samuel Gascoyne Norton [1870–1948] and Sarah Ann Norton ,nee Staffford [1874–1958 ]
