Tuesday 14 September 1915.
Howth- Quite a gloom was cast over the Howth and Sulphur Creek districts on Friday evening when it became known that Private Sidney Duff, eldest son of Mr & Mrs David Duff had been killed in action fighting at the Dardanelles. Deceased was a member of the Light Horse for some years but at the time of his enlistment the call for Light Horsemen being very small, he at once joined the infantry and proceeded to the front to defend and fight for the land of his birth. He was of a cheery disposition and a general favourite with all he came in contact with. The sympathy of the people goes out to Mr and Mrs Duff and family in the loss they have sustained through the death of such a gallant and noble son. he was a keen sport, being very fond of a jumper. Deceased owned and rode the well known show yard jumper Radium on which he was often seen taking part in several competitions along the North West Coast.
