Willam Frederick Surfield was born in Wallaroo in June 1890. 

Before William was enlisted in the war he was a labourer and grew up in Elbow Hill South Australia

William enlisted on January 4th 1916 to fight in the first World War at the age of 25 years old and fought in the 32nd battallion in France and Belgium. His father William Thomas Surfield was his nominated next of kin.

In battle he was wounded on his right hand and also his hip on the 30th of September.

William Frederick Surfield was discharged on the 9th of September 1919 and returned to his home in Australia. 

After his service in the AIF, William returned to Elbow Hill on the Eyre Peninsula and passed away on the 8th of July 1965.

William is honoured at the Cowell Men from Franklin Harbour WW1 Roll of Honour, Elbow Hill Methodist Church WW1 Honour Roll.
