Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Michael Hugh Keleher was the son of John and Mary Keleher, of Bowral, New South Wales. He was one of four brothers who enlisted and served in WW1.

Private Michael Keleher was wounded for the second time on 26 June 1918. He enlisted in December 1915, and arrived in England, in May 1916. In November 1916, he was sent to France, where he fought with the 41st Battalion. He was first wounded during April 1918. A brother Private James Martin Keleher was killed in action at Pozieres, on 25 July 1916. A third son Lance-Corporal Thomas Keleher was also killed on 25 October 1917, in the battle of Lille Wood, while a fourth son, Private Joe Keleher returned from the front in February last, having been sent home for ‘family reasons’ after his mother sent a request to General Birdwood.

Michael was returned to Australia during March 1919. He married in 1921 and raised two daughters.
