Andrew William ‘Bill’ Jamieson was a son of John and Catherine Jamieson, of Tiaro, Queensland. The Jamieson’s had nine children in all, including seven sons. Their father had passed away during 1911.
Andrew’s younger brother, 6823 Pte. Magnus Thomas Jamieson 9th Battalion died of flu induced pneumonia in a London hospital on 7 February 1917, aged 23.
Later in 1917, in order to destroy some German advanced posts near Warneton, an attack was launched by the 42nd and 43rd Battalions of the 9th Brigade on the night of 31 July 1917.
‘Bill’ was reported killed in action on 31 July 1917. He was last seen walking, wounded, to the aid station. His remains were buried three months later in Vulverghem-Lindenhoek Road Military Cemetery, Belgium.
