Biography

"...3168 Private David Ray (Ray) Leed, 23rd Battalion. A farmer from Central Mologa, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Leed embarked with the 7th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Commonwealth on 26 November 1915. Later transferring to the 58th Battalion and then to the 57th Battalion, he was killed in action at Pozieres, France, aged 22 and was buried in the Rue-Du-Bois Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)

"KILLED IN ACTION. PRIVATE D. R. LEED.

Private David Ray Leed, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Leed, of Central Mologa, was killed in action in France on 15th July. He enlisted in July, 1915, and sailed from Australia towards the end of November. After six months spent in training in Egypt, he sailed for France at the end of June with one of the battalions organised in Egypt. He was a member of the Mologa Methodist Choir, and a well-known player of the Mologa Football Club. Another son of Mr. and Mrs. Leed, Lance-Corporal W. G.
