A tailor from Long Gully, Victoria prior to enlistment, Pte Dower embarked with the 2nd Reinforcements from Melbourne on RMS Orontes on 16 August 1916. Later wounded at Mont St Quentin (correction St Quentin Canal), he succumbed to his wounds on 3 October 1918, aged 25, and was buried in the Tincourt New British Cemetery, France.
