On 5 November Alfred was wounded in the head and arms. He was admitted to Rouen Hospital. Shortly after returning to duty Alfred suffered a bombshell wound to his hand on 23 December and was admitted to Southern General Hospital in England. Base Records sent a telegram to Alfred’s mother on 10 January 1917 informing her of her son’s wounding – comprising wounds to the right shoulder, right forearm, left forearm and scalp.
A medical report dated 3 July 1917 stated Wasley had “considerable limitation of movement of right arm and fingers of both hands”, consequently he was invalided to Australia on the H.T. Themistocles. Alfred was discharged on 21 November 1917 and was granted a pension of 20 shillings per fortnight. Alfred Wasley died on 26 February 1921 and was buried at West Terrace A.I.F. Cemetery, Adelaide.
