At the Battle of Lagnicourt, Noreuil, 15th April 1917, Sgt George Kirkpatrick actions with a small group of men held off the attack in the sunken road with hand to hand fighting and stopped the enemy from reaching Noreuil. He was recommended by his commanding Officer for a posthumous Victoria Cross, but received a M.I.D.
