Born in Millicent, South Australia, Hugh Alexander Agnew date of birth is still to be found. His mother Mrs Rachel Agnew had two children Hugh and Jospeh Agnew. Hugh was single, a farmer and 30 years of age and 6 months when he nlisted on the 15th of September 1915.
Hugh had brown eyes, dark hair and weighed 79 kilograms, when he Hugh joined the 9th light horse reigment, 12th reinforcements. After two years of serving in the war Hugh was admitted to the 24th Stationary Hospital suffering with Sand-Fly Fever for 4 days and then was discharged to Moascar.
About a year or so later on the 29/9/18 Hugh got wounded in action, and was transferred to the 51st Stationary Hospital Abbassia. He left to return to Australia on the 16/1/19.
Hugh Alexander Agnew was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and The Victory Medal.
