Son of Julia Anne Donnelly of Broken Hill, NSW, previously Ebden Street, Auburn, Victoria; brother of Patrick Henry Donnelly who returned to Australia on 13 April 1919 having served with the 50th Battalion

Albert John Donnelly was the son of Julia Anne Donnelly, nee Green, and Patrick Donnelly. It is confirmed he had 2 other brothers Alfred Leslie Donnelly and Patrick Henry Donelly (both also fought in the war). However, he may have had another brother or cousin born also in Wangaratta NSW, Patrick Donnelly.
