Address at the time of enlistment was Paddington Street, Paddington, NSW.
Son of John Frederick Upton and Mabel Isabel Upton nee McDonald of Fairbank Road, Toorak, Victoria formerly of Malvern, Victoria.
3 March 1915 - enlisted at Liverpool, NSW, with the 17th Battalion and with the rank of Private.
1 May 1917 = transferred to the 63rd Battalion at Windmill Hill
11 August 1917 - transferred to the 17th Battalion
9 October 1917 - wounded in action. Invalided to England with wounds to the thigh and back on 13 October 1917 aboard HS St. Denis
3 October 1918 - wounded for the second time. Gassed. Invalided to England on 8 October 1918
Commenced return to Australia on 14 January 1919 aboard HT Karmala disembarking on 22 February 1919
Medals: 1914 - 1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal
21 June 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit due to gas poisoning.
During 1920c Frederick married Violet M. Sheehan in Paddington, NSW.
