History of Charles David Ruff

Charles David Ruff was born on the 12th August 1891 in Brisbane, Queensland. He was the son of Charles Henry and Jane Ruff (Jamieson).
In 1913 Charles was living at Beatrice Street, Coorparoo, Queensland and was employed as a Clerk.
On the 14th January 1916, Charles enlisted with the Australian Imperial Force for Active Service. He held the rank of Private.
On the 28th July 1916 he married my grandmother, Edith Elizabeth Belford, at Thompson's Estate, South Brisbane, Queensland.
They had only been married a few short weeks prior to his embarkation.
On the 8th August 1916 Charles joined his unit 25th Battalion, 14th Reinforcement and they embarked from Brisbane on board the HMAT A50.
On the 10th June 1918 Charles was killed in Action on the Western Front.
His body is buried at the Beacon Cemetery (Plot IV, Row C, Grove No.) Sailly-Lauretter, France.

Biography

Charles David Ruff was born on the 12th August 1891 in Brisbane, Queensland.  He was the son of Charles Henry and Jane Ruff (Jamieson).

On the 9th August 1916 Charles joined his unit the 25th Battalion, 14th Reinforcement and they embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board the HMAT A50.

On the 10th June 1918 Charles was Killed in Action on the Western Front.

His body was buried at the Beacon Cemetery (Plot IV, Row C, Grave No.) Sailly-Laurette, France.

Charles received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.  Both medals were presented to his widow Edith Elizabeth Ruff (Belford.  

Charles is honoured at the Australian War Memorial = Panel Number 106.
