Son of William Overend and Mary Ann Overend of Bungendore, NSW.
Brother of Thomas Edward Overend who returned to Australia on 27 August 1917 having served with the 56th Battalion; James Overend who returned to Australia on 3 March 1919 having served with the 56th Battalion.
Commenced return to Australia on 5 July 1919 aboard HT Port Melbourne disembarking on 20 August 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
