His date of death has not been ascertained with certainty, but it is known to have occurred between 6th and 9th August 1915. He is one of five Australian Great War casualties remembered on the Oban War Memorial. Here his name is spelled MacDonald and that is how he is recorded by CWGC.

Oban (An t-Òban in Scottish Gaelic meaning The Little Bay) is a resort town within the Argyll and Bute council area of Scotland. Despite its small size, it is the largest town between Helensburgh and Fort William.
