Patrick was the eldest of nine known children born to Patrick and Elizabeth Dwyer. He entered the butchering profession alongside his father in Rockhampton, Queensland, prior to enlisting. (Source: Qld BDM)
According to Australian Red Cross Society Wounded and Missing files, he was in action near Bullecourt in the open near a railway embankment. Close by was a large dump of bombs into the middle of which the Germans dropped a shell. The dump exploded and twelve soldiers including Patrick were killed along with several British soldiers. Patrick’s remains were not recovered.
