"AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL HIS MAJESTY THE KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Military Medal for bravery in the Field to the undermentioned:- No. 709 Sergeant H. R. ARCHARD For conspicuous good service during the period 16th September to 11th November 1918. During the attack on the Hindenburg Line, by his coolness and courage, he set a splendid example to his comrades. This N.C.O. did excellent service at Messines, Passchendale, Villers Bretonneux and Bray and has always been of immense value to his unit."

    Sergeant Archard, MM, was the son of George Henry and Ellen (Hughes) Archard and the husband of Elizabeth Ann Archard, of Nelsons Bay, New South Wales.

    He lost a son to WWII.
