Son of Frederick Veness and Ann Veness of 'Raeburn', Rae Street, Randwick, NSW.
Brother of Frederick Robert Veness who returned to Australia on 14 February 1918 having served with the 1st Pioneet Battalion; brother of Isaac Edward Veness who returned to Australia having served with the 6th Light Horse Brigade;
Commenced returned to Australia at Kantara on 3 July 1919 aboard HT Malta disembarking on 10 August 1919
