Son of Walter Quarrie and Elizabeth Emma Quarrie of Alexander Road, Bispham, Blackpool, England. Brother of Walter Hugh Quarrie who was killed in action on 2 July 1915 while serving with the 11th Battalion. Walter is buried in Lone Pine Cemetery , Plot 1, Row G, Grave 2.

Apprenticed with Fleetwood Motor Service, Fleetwood Lane for seven years.

Commenced return to Australia on 12 July 1919 aboard HT City of Exeter disembarking on 16 August 1919
